Managing the root zone in soilless culture | English | Eyal Ronen

Soilless culture is a cultivation technique in which plants are grown detached from the soil. Plants are cultivated in containers filled with several possible growing media. The limited volume of medium and water availability generally causes rapid changes in the status of water and nutrients surrounding the plant roots. therefore, changes in the electrical conductivity (EC), pH, and nutrients level should be continually monitored for ensuring efficient use of water and nutrients by the growing plants.

Foliar Feeding: Another successful way of feeding plants | English | Eyal Ronen

Now days foliar feeding is considered among the major techniques used for plant nutrition, supplementing the soil application. Foliar feeding is a reliable method of feeding plants when nutrients absorption by the plant roots is inefficient. Highly soluble fertilizers and pure nutrients is essential for achieving the best performance from this application method.

Foliar sprays with potassium nitrate increase rice yields | English | Dr C. Witt, Director IPNI Southeast Asia Programme

Four field trials performed in Vietnam during the spring and summer of 2009 showed that rice growers can significantly increase their yields and enjoy higher income by enriching crop nutrition with one or more foliar application of potassium nitrate.
Foliar application of potassium nitrate increased yields by 15%. Farmers' net income was increased by 13%.

Haifa CoteN - Continuous nitrogen nutrition for arable crops | English | Oded Achilea, Yoav Levi, Avi Shaviv, Adriano Altissimo, Laurent Aubertin, Smadar Raban, Eyal Ronen and Eran Barak

Haifa CoteNTM and CoteN Mix have been developed for crops that require reliable, intensive and continuous supply of nitrogen throughout the growth season, by a single pre-planting application. A marked saving of 20 – 30% of the N application rate, while maintaining or exceeding the yield obtained by conventional treatments. CoteN also help in complying with the  environmental regulations issued to control nitrogen application rates.

Micro-elements in agriculture | English | Eyal Ronen

The increase in cultivation intensity with the increase in demand for higher quality yields has resulted in higher plant nutrients requirement among them the micronutrients. The high yielding crops remove  higher quantities of micronutrients from the soil leading to micronutrients deficient situation in many soils. Among the different factors affecting the availability of the micronutrients, soil and soil solution pH is the major one.

Alleviation of salinity-induced stress in cash crops by Multi-K (potassium nitrate) - Five cases typifying the underlying pattern | English | O. Achilea

The use of enhanced potassic plant nutrition is an efficient method of preventing sodium-induced stress in many crops. In addition, the use of enhanced nitrate fertilization is a potent tool in precluding chloride-induced stress in many crops. The application of Multi-K (potassium nitrate) is shown here as a very efficient method of combating the aforementioned stresses and enhancing crops performances under saline conditions. This concept is validated shown here for five moderately salinitysensitive crops representing the three main sectors of agriculture: A) sweet corn for annual field crops, B) citrus for perennials, and C) tomato, lettuce and Chinese cabbage for greenhouse-grown vegetables. By adding Multi-K to their nutrition program, these crops were better able to cope with salinity conditions despite higher EC levels resulting from this treatment.

Haifa Bonus - Highly concentrated, enriched potassium nitrate, an optimal booster for yield and quality of citrus fruits | English | O. Achilea and Y. Soffer

Haifa bonus is a new fully soluble, crystalline formulation of potassium nitrate that has been specifically developed for foliar feeding of a large variety of crops. It is sprayed at concentrations of up to 10% for intensive foliar nutrition and for a prolonged effect, without any phytotoxic effects. Haifa bonus is potassium nitrate enriched with soluble phosphates and a special adjuvant. The moderately acidic pH (4.5-6.0) of the spray solution enables tank-mixing it with numerous pesticides.

Salinity | English | Eyal Ronen

Soil salinity is an increasing threat for agriculture and is a major factor in reducing plant productivity; therefore, it is necessary to better understand the reasons for its development and how to obtain sufficient control over the phenomenon. Salinity can be the result of both natural occurrence and human behavior. Salinity problems occur in non-irrigated lands as a result of water losses through evaporation, transpiration, possibly salt input through rain, and seawater drift. Additionally, salinity can develop due to careless usage of several fertilizers, irrigation with saline water, or over-irrigation that causes capillary movement of hidden salts from lower layers in the soil, however, a much more extensive problem in agriculture is the accumulation of salts from irrigation water.

Marked advantages of potassium nitrate under water scarcity & salinity | English | O. Achilea

Shortage of good or even medium quality water for crop irrigation is quickly becoming a major constraint to the ever-growing pursuit after agricultural production increase, much needed for feeding the multiplying population of our planet. Both components of potassium nitrate have been found by numerous researches to have a marked influence on the proper functioning of higher plants and optimizing their performances. Potassium, by being involved in the physiology of over 60 different enzymes, is directly involved in the water management of the plant by maintaining turgor, reducing water loss and wilting and improving drought tolerance. Nitrate has been shown during decades to competently and directly promote water use efficiency as compared to the ammonium form of nitrogen.
Application of potassium nitrate and its derivatives, by either nutrigation or by foliar spray, has directly enhanced fruit mass and quality of numerous crops, while irrigation rate was kept unchanged.
