Coated MAP increased efficiency of phosphates plant uptake

The plant's phosphates uptake efficiency from fertilizers, according to the common assumption, ranges from 10 to 30% in the year that it is applied.

The remaining 70 to 90% becomes part of the soil's phosphate stocks which might be used by the crop over the following months and years.

In the past, some studies proved that increasing the efficiency of phosphate uptake by plants during fertilizer application can lead to a better yield and to higher economic returns in cereals and vegetable cultivation.

Besides the economic advantages, increasing phosphate uptake efficiency can reduce environmental problems such as runoff of phosphate from agricultural fields to water bodies.

Haifa’s controlled release fertilizers can limit the contact of the applied phosphate with soil to reduce its precipitation and/or adsorption on soil colloids. This can increase its availability to plant roots and by that to avoid these problems.

Recent study, done in Italy by University of Padua and Landlab S.r.l., confirm this assumption and shows how Haifa’s coated MAP fertilizers ensures high plant P use efficiency with minimum environmental impacts and achieve higher plant yields and P accumulation than conventional fertilizers:
