Assess economic viability and yield in corn using a mix of Cote-N, Urea, MAP, KCl and Micronutrients (29-12-6), the Nitrogen will be 35% coated.

General results

Inferior treatment results and costs

Treatment 2: Slow release fertilizer.

In this treatment was applied 400 Kg/Ha of slow release fertilizer 20-10-10 and 200 Kg/Ha of Urea 46-0-0. So the final NPK program was 172-40-40. This had a cost of 442 USD/Ha.

The crop yield was 13.80 Ton/Ha.

 

Best treatment results and costs

T3 was the best treatment, the fertilization rate was 500 Kg/Ha 29-12-6 (Base dressing): 35% of the Nitrogen was coated with Cote-N 42-0-0 and there was only one application during the all crop season plus 2 foliar sprays with 1). 1 Kg PF 19-19-19+ME, 1 Kg Magnisal/Ha, 2). 1 Kg PF 10-10-43+ME, 1 Kg Magnisal/Ha.

The final program NPK of this treatment was 145-60-30 and this had a cost of 365 USD/Ha and the crop yield was 15.07 ton/Ha.

Economical results

At the harvest date corn grain was at 200 USD/Ton in the market, so:

T1: Cost = 460 USD/Ha       Yield = 14.19 ton/Ha    Income = 2,838 USD/Ha      Net Income =  $ 2,378

T2: Cost = 442 USD/Ha       Yield = 13.80 ton/Ha    Income = 2,760 USD/Ha      Net Income =  $ 2,318

T3:  Cost = 365 USD/Ha      Yield =  15.07 ton/Ha   Income = 3,014 USD/Ha      Net Income =  $2,649

 

Net benefit of the best treatment ($/Ha)

The net benefit was 2,649 USD/Ha.

Conclusions

Summary

Using 35 % of Nitrogen as Cote-N in a mix 29-12-6, this farmer decreased the production cost 95 USD/Ha (20%), increased crops yield +0.88 ton/Ha (6.2%) and the net benefit increased 271 USD/Ha compared to his traditional management.
