Agronomic Q&A: What type of fertilization method works best for lettuce?

Haifa Group's agronomy experts receive all kinds of professional questions and requests for advice on a regular basis. Hereunder are some of the frequently asked questions, followed by our answers. This time: What type of fertilization method works best for lettuce?

Agronomic Q&A: What type of fertilization method works best for lettuce?

A: For lettuce growing, it is highly recommended to use fertigation through drip irrigation pipe lines. This method feeds the plant in the most natural way – from the soil / root upwards. It also allows the grower to have control over every aspect of the fertilization process.

We can also recommend the use of controlled release fertilizers combined with a proper irrigation system. The use of simple dry applied fertilizers via base application or side dressing is less precise. It should be noted that the application of Foliar fertilizers alone cannot supply all the plant's needs, so you must combine foliar feeding with root-feeding application.

An Hydroponics system is another option, but it is usually used in greenhouses. This systems requires significant expanses, but provides the ability to achieve optimal plant nutrition and optimum yield.
