Monitoring of Nutrigation™ in soil grown crops. 

Nurtigation™ is a technique that is increasingly expanding among wide range of soil grown crops. Although generally (in most situations) a good managed Nutrigation™ supply an adequate nutrition, monitoring of the nutrients status, electrical conductivity and pH in the soil solution along the growing season is essential to ensure maximum crop productivity and quality. 

The soil solution is the water that is held at the porous within the soil partials and interacts with the plant's roots. Analyzing the soil solution can help identify excessive nutrients and salinity levels in the soil and nutrients leaching beneath the root zone. 

Soil solution extractors 
The capture / extract of the soil solution is done through an extractors (suction lysimeter), a ceramic cup which inserted into the soil at varied depths (40 -120 cm) and draws water out of the surrounding soil into the tube through negative air pressure (vacuum) applied within the ceramic cup (as demonstrated at the photo). 

Soil solution analyzing devices 
There is a wide range of devices available for analyzing the mentioned soil solution properties. Some of them are suitable for an immediate and quick test which performed in the field / on spot, the accuracy of these devices is inferior to these situated in the laboratory. 

Interpretation of results 
The appropriate ranges and thresholds to be managed / maintained are known from references, but the growing conditions are unique to each site and vary from place to place. The adjustments to the fertilization program should be decided following series of tests (sampling and analyzing), this studying period is essential.
