Abstract: This review article describes the highlights of ten years of hydroponic lettuce (Lactuca sativa; butterhead lettuce) research conducted at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA) throughout most of the nineties. Both the nutrient film technique (NFT) and the deep flow system were used for experimentation.
Abstract: Biological control of pests in hydroponic Lettuce requires a change in thinking for the grower as well as the supplier of the products. The old concept of maintaining a balance of pests and predators/parasitoids does not work in a crop where any insect or mite found on the plants is a negative.
Abstract: This hydroponic greenhouse production system was designed for small operations to provide local production of head lettuce as well as employment to the proprieters. Our research group has experimented with many forms of hydroponics but have found this floating system to be the most robust and forgiving of the available systems.
