Nutritional Disorders in Grapevines

Nutritional disorders in grapevines reduce growth, yield, and berry quality. Identifying deficiency symptoms and applying the right nutritional solutions helps ensure optimal vineyard performance.

Nitrogen (N)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Pale leaves, slowed growth, smaller bunches. Symptoms appear first on older leaves.

Haifa solutions: Multicote™ Agr

Phosphorus (P)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Dark green to purplish foliage, small brittle leaves, poor root development, reduced berry set, poor flowering, increased flower and fruitlet drop, and delayed ripening.

Haifa solutions: Haifa MAP™, Haifa MKP™, Haifa ProteK™

Potassium (K)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Marginal chlorosis on older leaves, fruit softening, and increased vulnerability to pests and diseases.

Haifa solutions: Multi-K, Haifa Bonus, Poly-Feed Foliar, Poly-Feed Drip

Magnesium (Mg)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Chlorosis on leaf tips, progressing as bleaching toward the center of the leaf.

Haifa solutions: Haifa Mag, BitterMag

Calcium (Ca)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Berry cracking and drop, grain rot, increased susceptibility to pests and diseases. Leaf symptoms are less common but may include small leaves with necrotic spots.

Haifa solutions: Haifa Cal, HaifaStim Calmaster

Sulfur (S)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Chlorosis of young leaves and retarded growth. Symptoms resemble nitrogen deficiency.

Haifa solutions: Haifa SOP, Ammonium Sulfate

Manganese (Mn)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Interveinal yellowing, with veins and surrounding areas remaining green. Symptoms begin on young leaves and spread to older leaves as deficiency worsens.

Haifa solutions: Haifa Micro™ Mn 13

Iron (Fe)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Leaf bleaching with green veins, progressing to leaf drying and drop. Growth is retarded, and twigs become thin, weak, and prone to breakage. Iron deficiency often occurs in calcareous soils, poorly drained soils, or light soils not fertilized with iron.

Haifa solutions: Haifa Micro Fe 13, HaiFer, Haifa Micro Top Iron

Zinc (Zn)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Misshaped, dwarfed leaves and undeveloped berries that remain pea-sized.

Haifa solutions: Haifa Micro Zn 15

Boron (B)

Typical deficiency symptoms: Impaired growth, broken stems, and death of shoot tips. Boron deficiency is the most common micronutrient disorder worldwide, often occurring in alkaline soils or soils low in organic matter.
